Moderate Rebels
‘Not My Queen, Not My King’
Out 3rd May
Everyday Life Recordings

London Ecossaise ‘Anti Music’ state of permanent- flux collective, Moderate Rebels, have just finished their 4th album, which will be out in winter ’23, alongside some new EPs, and give a sneak preview of their new material with floaty repetitive new song ‘Not My Queen, Not My King’, out 3rd May on Everyday Life Recordings.

“This new song is playing musically with idea of what is laidback, and what is confrontation… and can it truly be both, or either, of those emotional states? We want it to be trancelike, feel mentally direct, but still warm and gentle, saying something and saying nothing, all at the same time. A more philosophically extreme style of easy listening, perhaps.

“As ever with Moderate Rebels, it’s not really about our own personal opinions particularly… but it could be argued that there are many people who are still living with the profound consequences of their ancestors being displaced, starved, robbed, imprisoned and murdered by the British Crown and its ‘Empire’… so this tune is a different kind of voice, at this particular time, for all these people… for the remembering of inter-generational trauma. It’s also for people who believe that, in this 21st Century, everyone… and that does mean everyone, should be born equal, in legal terms… plus for those who wonder why is it that the people’s elected representatives are expected to swear their allegiance to a monarch?”

“If you’ve got eyes… to see”

This song is also one of two on the new MR album that feature ‘The Spaceman 4’ specialist choir
(Sonic, Boom, Jason & Spaceman) – Moderate Rebels’ favourite conceptual canine vocalists.

More MR news, including some live shows, to follow shortly.

about

Moderate Rebels London, UK

Moderate Rebels love driving rhythmic repetition, discordant guitar fuzz, hazy psychedelia, twinkling piano ballads, drum machine rigidity and playful synth pop. Their touchstones – Phil Spector, Fripp & Eno and Syd Barrett, Spiritualized, St Etienne and Stereolab, and the wry humour of 80s Pet Shop Boys – are stamped with their own inimitable identity. ... more
